ABOUT BURPEE'S

Welcome to Burpee's Seedy Theatrical Company!

We are an improvisational comedy troupe at Denison University in Granville, OH. Founded in 1979 as an outgrowth of a theatre class taught by Denison professor Kevin Hoggard, Burpee's is the Nation's Oldest Collegiate Improv Group. Burpee's has seen hundreds of Denison students fill its ranks, most notably award-winning actor Steve Carell. Using audience inputs to create hilarious scenes, Burpee's shows are a huge hit both on and off campus.

Burpee's typically performs Short Form comedy, but since 2016 has expanded our repertoire to include Long Form comedy as well. We have also collaborated on variety shows with other Denison performing arts organizations, and have even performed at professional venues outside of Denison, including in 2017 at the Davidson Theatre in Downtown Columbus, in front of a live audience of nearly 1,000 people, with TedXColumbus for a globally streamed Ted Talk on Trust. This year we are hoping to explore more Musical Comedy and collaborate with other Improv and Comedy groups in the Columbus area and beyond.
